I watched My Beautiful Launderette last night on BBC FOUR. I had forgotten how menacing some of it was. It made me think about the 1980s all over again. Was Thatcherism necessary? Ugly and spiteful certainly, but did it have to happen? Was it Thatcherism that radicalised desire?
