This morning, I had to do one of the hardest things that a priest ever has to to do – telling the congregation in Bridge of Allan that my time at St Saviour’s is drawing to a close.
I’m going to be moving to the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway to become the Provost of St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow in May.
It is one of the very strangest combination of feelings. On the one hand, I’m excited and looking forward to what is to come whilst on the other, leaving here is going to be such a wrench. St Saviour’s could not have been a more perfect first charge, and without doubt, the last years have been the happiest in my life. Not surprisingly then, it feels very strange to be moving on.
There is more about St Mary’s here for anyone wanting to know where I’m going.
A Sad departure but looking forward
It is always sad when a priest leaves a charge, and I have now seen three Rector’s leave St Mary’s. But the is a new beginning which everyone can look forward to.

All change
Oh, that’s weird – our rector here in Perth is on the move as well. Speaking as an inhabitant of a pew, one misses folks one’s got to know but recognizes that times come for folks to do new things. May your innings there be a time of blessing for all 🙂
hahaha
You don’t think you’ll get rid of us that easily do you?? !!We’ll miss you terribly but this is a fantastic opportunity and very exciting. We’ll have to make the most of you before you go!!

Thanks for everything!

Congratulations and best wishes from Uppsala – after successfully having survived a Swedish winter you ought to be able to muster just about anything.
Will miss you
I’ll miss you very much because you are nice and friendly and not grumpy.
I hope the person who comes after you isn’t crabit and likes children.

Since the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway is a companion diocese to the Diocese of Kentucky welcome to the family. I had the pleasure of meeting and verging John Taylor, Retire Bishop of G&G last May.

Moving Forward
Congratulations on your appointement to Glasgow. I had the please of visiting the cathedral church in November last year, as part of a recording I was doing for the BBC. It’s a lovely building, and I’m sure you’ll be very happy there.
CONGRATULATIONS
You’ll be missed I’m sure, but the new challenges waiting in Glasgow will enrich your life and the living of it.
How does one address a provost?
How does a provost dress? Is this your chance to have one of those amazing embroidered frocks???
Exciting times ahead!!!!
