Angels in America

Back to the Gorbals last night for the concluding part of Angels in America. It is an exhausting play, and not only because it is 7 hours long. You come out, wrung out.

It is Tales of the City for grown ups and inhabits the same cosmology that Jerry Springer – the Opera satarises. It is a hymn to change. It teases us with the possibility of forgiveness. A wicked man has the kadish of the dead sung over his corpse by the woman he had killed. And there is a blessing, the blessing, of More Life for us all in the end.

But what we have to go through to get that blessing. And if you see that kind of God, …sue him.
