School security

Following the Soham murder trial at the Old Bailey, it has been reported that the convicted man had previously been known to police. Questions are being raised about how such a person should have been put in a position of trust in a school environment.  I'm not at all surprised that such a thing could happen. No school that I have ever gone into in connection with my work has ever done any kind of security or identity check. Schools seem to me to take far less care than churches are about such things these days. They are almost as bad as hospitals.

It is terrible, we must protect our children no matter what the cost.   Do we never learn?
What drives a person to harm a child?  This is very very disturbing
It is difficult to not be fearful
