Prayer for the Day – Script 2
This is what I said on Radio 4 at 0543 this morning: Good morning. Today is the anniversary of the birth of AA Milne. That makes it the birthday of Winnie the Pooh as well. Later on today, I’ll be marking this as Winnie the Pooh Day. I’ll pour myself a cup of tea and…

Election of the New Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway
Today has been quite a busy day at St Mary’s. The Cathedral hosted the election of the new bishop. The vote was over quickly and decisively when The Very Rev Gregor Duncan was chosen to be the next bishop of the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway in the first ballot. (Canon 4 allows up to…

Prayer for the Day – Script 1
This is what I said this morning on Prayer for the Day on Radio 4: Good morning. There is an anniversary which falls today which isn’t well known or well celebrated but perhaps future generations will look back on it and mark it well. Today is the ninth anniversary of the first surviving edit made…

Mungo, the loved one
Went off to Glasgow’s medieval cathedral last night for a Glasgow Churches Together service celebrating St Mungo, the loved one, who settled in this place and preached the gospel here. I’d never been to a service there before and it was the first time I’d been there at night. I think the building looked better…

Electoral Synod
Just back from the Electoral Synod – a day spent listening to the three candidates for the Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway. There is a veil of confidentiality that draws across what anyone said today. Its not for repetition so all I can do is record some responses that I felt in myself. It was…

Unpopular things that I think and say #3
I don’t think the current process of electing a new Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway has been conducted Canonically. I’ve said this before, and it remains my view. The Bishops of our church in proclaiming the moratorium (which amounts to a ban on some gay clergy from being nominated) have tried to change the way…
