To St Matthews just up the road last night for a special service to mark the arrival of their priest-in-charge. Fr David has arrived from the bright lights of Hove to a part of Glasgow that is, well, sans beach and sans bright lights.
There was a strong sense of the right person being called to be in the right place at the right time. Folk had gathered from all over the known world, even from England.
The custom is that a new priest does the intercessions at such a service, and last night’s were simply the most creative and beautiful I’ve heard. We were marking the start of Michaelmas, and no one could have left without being assured of the presence of Raphael, Gabriel and Michael, healing the weary, trumpeting the good news and fighting for right.
Good music too.
All in all a gloriously hopeful evening.
