Web-pastorate

I've now lost count of the number of people who have suggested that I am the person for the Web Pastor job which the Diocese of Oxford are setting up.

I suspect that there is an interesting job to be done in the Diocese of Oxford. Whether it is possible to set up a church which is on the internet but confined to diocesan boundaries, seems to me to be unlikely. Para-church structures are far more likely to work than aping geographical congregationalism online.

Anyway, I find this fuss hard to understand. The church has so far to move still in dealing with the online revolution. It would be much more exciting if the Diocese of Oxford (or anywhere) were looking for someone to minister to those few people who were unable to be part of normal churches because they were not, as yet, online themselves. It will come – ministry to the techno-underclass.
