Yesterday was Trinity Sunday and so we sang St Patrick’s Breastplate in church. Unfortunately, I was hoodwinked by a modern hymn book which missed out the following verse –
Against all Satan’s spells and wiles, Against false words of heresy,
Against the knowledge that defiles, Against the heart’s idolatry,
Against the wizard’s evil craft, Against the death-wound and the burning,
The choking wave, the poisoned shaft, Protect me Christ till thy returning.
Harry Potter or no Harry Potter, I think that had I been aware of this verse, I would probably have included it.
