Last Night

It is hard to think of a setting more romantic than Stirling Castle for a dinner. The newly restored 500 year old Great Hall made a suitably hammer-beamed setting for a very enjoyable evening. The food was accompanied by fiddle music. After the meal the Stirling Gaelic Choir sang – an etherial noise in such a place. Then the prize giving ceremony and then the City of Stirling Pipe Band marched us through the castle and out onto the Esplanade, to the sight of a floodlit Wallace monument and the lights of the Forth Valley twinkling all the way down to Edinburgh.

The Castle is a fine sight at the best of times, but in the mist and smurr of a dark autumn night it is stunning.
