Organ RIP

A very strange day. The pipe organ at St Saviour’s is being removed today.

Notwithstanding all the good reasons for taking it away, it is still a rather melancholy feeling seeing it actually being removed.

Changing the organ is our big project for our 150th celebration year. A new digital pipe organ has been ordered and will be with us in a few months. The current pipe organ has been sampled digitally and the pipes themselves should be incorporated into another organ, probably in another Episcopal Church in Scotland.

The organ itself has given good service and been a sweet sound for about 130 years. During that time it has blown cold air on many sopranos’ necks, confused many organists with its non-standard pedal-board and induced mild terror through its kick-step swell.
