Three new CDs purchased this week. It seems ages since I bought new music.
Firstly Kate Rusby’s new CD The Girl who Couldn’t Fly. You know exactly where you are with the Barnsley Nightingale – maudlin songs of love and folly. Excellent for the winter nights.
Then a copy of Jennifer Bate’s recording of Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur. This is a real treat and I may put it aside to listen to on Christmas Day.
Finally, a copy of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. This is to replace a copy on vinyl which I can now throw away. It makes me think of my second year in Manchester, when I was a student there. I might even have a whimsical smile on my face as I listen to it now.
Along with the (digitally remastered) copy of the album with one bonus track, there is a further CD of alternate versions of the songs recorded in the studios at the same time. I’m still not 100% convinced that this is a good idea. It sounds a little like Fleetwood Mac being a tribute band to themselves. They can leave nothing alone these days. Change, change, change…
Oh no, I’m starting to sound like the Prayer Book Society.
