Three ordinations this morning in the Cathedral. Lots of goodwill and love for the candidates, Judy, Eamon and Paul.
An incident with a prominent member of the clergy and a staple nearly resulted in blood sacrifice at the altar, but this was averted by some nifty serving. A plaster was obtained from the first aid box and attached to the episcopal finger between the lavabo and the sanctus without many people being much the wiser. It is quite a long time since I was involved in helping to put on an ordination. Fortunately, there are plenty of people around here who know how it is done.
It was good to see it go well. An excellent sermon from Fr Tom and a huge supporters’ club sitting in the nave and sanctuary – friends, family, colleagues and general well wishers.
An ordination is a moving service. Always.
