Michael Bawtree is playing an organ recital tonight in St Mary’s.
As I announced on Sunday, he will be giving a similar organ recital in three of the great organ centres of the world over the next couple of weeks – St Paul’s Cathedral in London, Notre Dame in Paris and … St Mary’s Cathedral in Glasgow.
There was something of a snigger at this, presumably at the thought that St Paul’s is one of the great organ centres of the world.
Anyway, Michael is a good friend of St Mary’s and you can catch his recital here before it goes off elsewhere. Kick off is 7.30 pm and the programme is something like this:
Overture to the Occasional Oratorio
+George Frederic Handel (1685-1759)
Cantique (Folkloric Suite)
+Jean Langlais (1907-1991)
Allegro moderato (from Organ Sonata)
+Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934)
Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele BWV 654
+Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Fantasia in G minor Op. 136
+York Bowen (1884-1961)
Nocturne (from Douze Pièces pour Grand Orgue Op. 5)
+Joseph Bonnet (1884-1944)
Moto ostinato (from Sunday Music)
+Petr Eben (1929-2007)
