It is World AIDS Day next week. To mark that date this year, I’ve recorded a number of conversations with Marion Chatterley in connection with her work as Chaplain to people with HIV and Hep C in Scotland.

Here are some of the things that Marion and I touched on this conversation:

    • Does it matter if you become HIV+ when they’ve got medicines that can keep it under control?
    • What stigma means in Scotland today
    • How young gay men are putting themselves at unnecessary risk
    • Dating apps
    • Why the church needs to talk about healthy relationships

There will be more later in the week. Comments and questions welcome below.

With out looking at a map I can think of three:

    Belfast;
The Cathedral of The Isles, Millport; and
    Carlisle.

I am not sure if there are others, the next two which are probably further than Glasgow are Newcastle and St Mary’s Edinburgh

No, I don’t think so, Stewart. Partly right and partly wrong.

    Greetings from Cowal & Bute.

Carlisle Cathedral must be closest to Castle Douglas.

I suspect that St German in Peel, diocese of Sodor & Man, is next closest as the seagull flies – the radio reception from the Isle of Man is extraordinarily clear down there.

Cathedral of the Isles on Great Cumbrae and Glasgow – pretty similar I would have thought, Calmac notwithstanding. Your poor horse would need waterwings to get over there, and your gaiters would have to fully waterproof.

I’ve travelled from the Isle of Man to Kirkcudbright, but in a yacht. Without the horse.

As the crow flies, I suspect that both Newcastle and Durham are closer than Glasgow. Of course, in practical terms, the Irish Sea does rather get in the way. Having spent four weeks living somewhere that is not quite so far south as Castle Douglas and yet still does not get BBC Radio Scotland, this wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

St Mary’s is closer than the Cathedral of the Isles, but only by about a mile and a half.

  • Recording the resurrection

I’ve to do the strangest thing today. I’ve to record the resurrection ahead of time. We are in the middle of Lent at the moment, which means worship in a lovely subdued mode, preaching of the passion on Sunday and a generally sub fusc mood. Yet I’ve agreed to a recording of a service for…

  • News from the States

The news came through last night that the Anglican Communion is to have its second bishop who happens to have a gay partner. Canon Mary Glasspool was elected as a new suffragan bishop in Los Angeles a few months ago. What’s happened since is that the wider American church has had a chance to say…

Its a funny thing, Choral Evensong. A few years ago, I would have said it was purely of antiquarian interest. However, I was wrong. Last night was a good example. Glorious music. Quite a diverse aged congregation. A diverse aged choir too. Gorecki’s Totus tuus utterly beguiling us all in its simplicity and sparse beauty.…

  • Sermon preached on 14 March 2010

Here's Bishop David's sermon for Lent 4. It was good to have Bishop David here this morning – he came as he is currently our diocesan bishop. (And we won't be able to say that for long).
