• How were my Predictions last year?

Time to check out how I did with the predictions I made on New Year’s Day 2024.

1  General Election in UK – Labour landslide. PM – Sir Keir Starmer. (No great change in policies from the Tory government that Labour will replace).

Yes – fulfilled in every way.

2  US politics will continue to be dominated by Donald Trump

    Yes

3  In the US Presidential election in November there will be victory for the Republican Party.

    Yes

4  AI/Deepfakes have a significant effect in electoral politics.

Not really – AI/Deepfakes are present but there’s no real evidence that they swung any particular election

5  Conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine unresolved by end of 2024.

    Alas Yes

6  No progress for those wanting marriage equality in the Church of England.

    Alas Yes

7  Twitter goes bust or is sold or both.

Not quite. Twitter feels pretty wounded but still Xists.

8  The world will be warmer in 2024 than ever before.

    Yes

9  Another country will join Nato.

    Yes, Sweden in March.

A new agreement is reached between the UK and Greece on the Elgin/Parthenon Marbles that opens the door for at least some of them to be displayed in Athens.

    Close but no cigar.

Not a bad year – 7 direct hits with a few misses.

Yes, both working for me. I have a tiny Kelvin in the corner of my iTunes window.

Podcasts downloaded and played on the laptop without any problems. Have not tried them on an iPod though.

Currently the iTunes Store will not let me subscribe to any of the three podcasts listed. Is it limited to Scotland or the UK?

David, they are not limited to Scotland or the UK.

There are also only two podcast streams.

Specifically, they can be found here and here.

Anyone else having trouble? Or anyone else from outside the UK able to confirm a subscription?

    I can see three video podcasts;
    Interview with Gene Robinson
    Sermon 10 July
    Sermon Gene Robinson

    and three audio podcasts;
    Sermon 1 July
    Sermon 6 July
    Sermon 27 July

None will let me subscribe. Is it perhaps limited to the UK iTunes Store? I am hooked to the USA Store usually, because I have purchased things for years with a USA bankcard.

Ok, I tracked down the problem. Podcasts were disabled under the Parental Controls in the Preferences. My computer illiterate parents must have snuck into town and down that!

It was impossible not to be moved by people standing around an immigration enforcement van in Pollokshields yesterday chanting “These are our neighbours, let them go”. Boris Johnston will achieve his longstanding ambition to become a former Prime Minister. Stock market higher at end of 2021 than at the beginning (FTSE – 6,460)  but higher inflation too (most recent CHPI – 0.6%). No progress for those hoping for marriage equality in the Church of England. State based hackers turn their disruptive…
