• The Forum with Michael Bawtree

We had a good Forum meeting after the 10.30 am service yesterday. This time I was interviewing Michael Bawtree.

Michael is an international musicial and conductor based in Glasgow but frequently travelling the world.

Some of the things we talked about were:

    • Can you tell a musician’s faith by the music they make?
    • What is Spirituality and is it the same as Religion?
    • Why commission new music?
    • What makes a musician?

We also discovered Michael’s guilty secret – he revealed which composer he just doesn’t quite get.

You can see it all in the video below.

(Note that the sound is considerably improved from last week).

‘Gentle application of holy water’? Get her to drink it and that should kill off any bacteria. If that fails let me know and I can send you one of St Rita’s rose petals and you could make a fragrant nosegay for her. That should do the trick.

I fear that a fragrant nosegay might be more difficult to apply for any period of time than the recent eyedrops which gave both she and I so much entertainment.

  • Pergolesi Vespers

Lovely devotions yesterday evening. Two Bridge of Allan folk decided to sing Pergolesi’s Stabat Martyr and we decided to build an evening service for Passiontide around it. The music was utterly beautiful.

  • Sunday Sermon – Lent 5 2006

As we make our progress towards the cross, this year we are reading on Sunday from John’s gospel. And John is the one who always tries to unpack what  it all means. The other gospel writers give us a good old story, but John had a bit more time to reflect on things and he…
