I do like ‘try to wind everyone as far up the candlestick of joy as I dare’. St Mary’s does have natural advantages, which let it succeed as it does. However, I really do not think other churchs need to make so much of their natural disadvantages…

…And don’t forget Evensong, which for me (as you’d expect) was even more glorious. I even felt moved to blog about it in the first of a ‘Guilty Pleasures’ series! http://mimanifesto.wordpress.com/2013/03/11/guilty-pleasures-1/

It was particularly wonderful for the Boston choir to be singing Frikki’s great setting of Newman’s poem/hymn ‘Lead Kindly Light’

A fabulous end to a remarkable day in the Cathedral. Truly uplifting.

Sounds as if everybody had great time. On occasions, such as this, I wish you could record the whole service, as you do with the Sermon, for people to watch on line.

The prayer at the end – pretty good.
Our congregation recently decided to introduce an Evensong service once a month so I’m looking forward to that.

  • Buildings vs Clergy

I suddenly realised in the middle of a complicated meeting yesterday that it seemed as though people in many situations would actually prefer to have a church building than a priest. Is that so? Is that true and is that one of the key things which gives life to those who long for freshnewlocalcollaborativetotalministryofthebaptised?

  • College of Bishops Says Sorry

In a letter to lesbian and gay people in the church, the College of Bishops has said: …it has not been possible to hear adequately your voices, and we apologize for any sense of rejection that has occurred because of this reality. This letter is a sign of our commitment to listen to you and…

  • Flashmob evensong anyone?

Well, you certainly responded to the invitation to Evensong last night in big numbers, didn’t you? The cathedral was packed, with hundreds of voices from around the diocese and further afield – a lovely gathering. Lots of people went out the door asking whether we will be doing it again. The answer is yes –…
