• Any Questions on Marriage?

I’m going to be posting sometime over the next week a considered response to the announcement last week regarding marriage law reform in Scotland.

(Note that I’m not calling it Equal Marriage yet as it seems to me to be a step in that direction but very definitely not yet a proposal for equality).

I’ll be responding to comments and questions that have been raised off blog with me in the last week. Some in relation to what this means and some in relation to what it means within the church. Anyone who wants to ask anything or make a comment on here about all of this, is welcome to do so either in the comments, using the contact form or by twitter.

“something that the church overwhelmingly felt was not the way forward”

…… the way set by the emergency Primates meeting way back when Gene had just been elected was not the way forward and, sad to say, I can’t think of any good that has flowed from it.

I can only hope that the threats are now over and the listening begins.

BTW, Father Mark Harris in the US says that the Philippine province has already said no to the covenant.

Yes – it is reported that the Philippine province has said no, but the reports I saw suggested that it was their bishops who said no rather than a vote in a General Synod.

My point was that I think that the Scottish Synod is the first actual Synod of a Province to say no. Happy to be proved wrong though.

Two worlds collide in my weekend. To Perth today for a conference on the proposed new method of electing people for local, perhaps even national government, STV. Single Transferable Voting is fair but complicated. Then tomorrow, the feast of Christ the King, which I am making much of in church. Choir, string quartet and special…

  • Toadstools

A rather fine circle of toadstools has appeared in the front rectory garden which has given me much pleasure in the last 24 hours. I've told the cat that there are fairies at the bottom of the garden, but she just yawns.

  • Church AGM

Church AGM last night went very smoothly. It is not the same without a half hour controversy over the position of the bishop's chair, but we somehow we managed to get by without this. Yesterday was spent doing the annual church statistics, something which I enjoy doing more than I would normally let on. I…

To my delight, I've just discovered that I cannot post certain words on this blog – postnuke (my blogging software) is a prude. I cannot say cock, for example, nor cock, cock or cock. The words get replaced by stars. What I have not found out yet, is where the list of words is which…
