• Sermon preached on Trinity Sunday 2014

The truth is, I’ve not preached on Trinity Sunday. I think I have preached on Trinity Sunday in my time at St Mary’s but certainly not many times and certainly not for a number of years.

You see – I’ve been in charge of the preaching rota.

But lo. Here I am having spent a couple of weeks off sick, now back to work. I’m grateful to colleagues for picking up various bits of work whilst I was indisposed.

One of those bits of work that I had to ask someone else to pick up was devising the preaching rota….

…and here I find myself – first Sunday back at work, preaching on the Holy Trinity.

    Am I fighting fit? Yes!

Am I cowed by having to preach on the Trinity? Certainly not. (more…)

Yes, the first one is a little too well produced.

I’m imagining the cat version: disdainful look; “have you been away? my food bowl’s empty” miaow; walks off.

Having enjoyed the doggie reunions video very much, Opal the Cat wishes to say that he hasn’t looked at his food dish once since I got back here tonight, nose rubbing, tummy tickling, head butting and general joyous ‘glad to see you’ stuff for a couple of hours, then an interesting video, followed by a companionable sleep on the table – on my hand ….

Yes, the first one is neatly packaged, but it appears to be a commercial, not home videos.

Sorry, but it doesn’t take returning from a tour of duty for dogs to act this way, just go to the grocery store for 30 minutes and dogs will behave the same over-the-top way!

  • Consultation time again

A couple of years ago, I asked the congregation a series of questions in a Consultation Document. It was a most fruitful exercise. Somehow the folk at St Mary’s like being asked questions and like getting the chance to respond. Maybe most congregations would be like that if they got the chance. Recently, a small…

  • We are Created By God – a Mothers' Union Discussion Booklet

I’m grateful to Sheila Redwood of the Mothers’ Union for sending me this discussion booklet as a response to my earlier posts (here and here)) about the MU attitude to those who are gay. It is a nicely produced book. A shiny cover has friendly stones piled on one another. It is clear that a…

  • Horse Tidbits

I’m regularly astonished at the commitment of my local supermarket – a branch of Lidl just off Maryhill Road. Today for example, I was offered pheasant, quail, goose, venison and horse tidbits. I toyed with the idea of the bath salts flavoured with honey and milk which sounded vaguely Biblical but in the end opted…
