• Any Questions on Marriage?

I’m going to be posting sometime over the next week a considered response to the announcement last week regarding marriage law reform in Scotland.

(Note that I’m not calling it Equal Marriage yet as it seems to me to be a step in that direction but very definitely not yet a proposal for equality).

I’ll be responding to comments and questions that have been raised off blog with me in the last week. Some in relation to what this means and some in relation to what it means within the church. Anyone who wants to ask anything or make a comment on here about all of this, is welcome to do so either in the comments, using the contact form or by twitter.

Thanks for linking +David’s post. I’d read it, and the first few comments, but missed that later discussion. It represents a new level of blog dialogue in the SEC, I think.

Who’ll be next, do you think?

Thanks for the episcopal summary – I take back my previous criticisms about the bishops. They are being rather splendidly thoughtful at the moment. As was Archbish Sentamu on Radio 4’s question time 🙂

Kelvin – thanks for your linking and attention-drawing activities. It’s hard not to be aware that there is a common thread linking all of those ‘over the parapet’ contributions – which is that the tone of recent contributions from our Catholic colleagues has been unfortunate. But now that we seem to have some momentum, I hope we can move on to be a bit more successful at shaping an agenda rather than simply responding to others.

What’s the clergy equivalent of a mitre over the parapet?

    A biretta over the altar?

I can see snow on Cruachan. Birettas may be worn.

(See number 79 of my 100 things if you’ve no idea what Stewart is alluding to).

I am afraid the discussion with +David on his blog came to a sad end….have another look!

To my delight, I've just discovered that I cannot post certain words on this blog – postnuke (my blogging software) is a prude. I cannot say cock, for example, nor cock, cock or cock. The words get replaced by stars. What I have not found out yet, is where the list of words is which…

Mickey Mouse is apparently 75 years old today. There have been a number of programmes on the television and the radio charting his progress from the days of Steamboat Willy to the present. Apparently, to celebrate this milestone, the Queen has invited Mickey Mouse for a State Visit, which is causing some distresss to Londoners…

I'm amazed at the way in which sermons have a life of their own on this blog site. I know that they are read far away from Bridge of Allan. It is becoming not uncommon for people to call me up from far away about something else and end up discussing a sermon that they…

Can I ask you please …What was the look on Jesus?s face as he taught the disciples?? What tone of voice did he adopt when he said these things?? Was he standing or sitting?? Did he have the Hebrew scriptures in his hand or simply written in his heart?? What [and this is the point of this sermon] is…
