• Knowing Me, Knowing You – Monday evening

I’m doing another Knowing Me, Knowing You evening on Monday evening and there’s still a couple of places free. (I limit this one to 20 people in order to keep the conversation flowing).

    Here’s the official notice:

    ————

Knowing Me, Knowing You – Monday 23 September 2013 at 7.30 pm in the Synod Hall.

An evening of conversation with the Cathedral Provost, the Very Rev Kelvin Holdsworth. This is limited to 20 people to ensure the converation flows and there are still a few places left. Kelvin will be speaking about what brought him to St Mary’s, what his vision is for the congregation and is prepared to answer any questions.

This is an ideal event for anyone new to the congregation but is also open to those who have been around for a while but who have not previously attended one of these evenings.

To reserve a place, please contact Jo in the Cathedral Office using this online form: Book a place

    ———–

I try very hard not to model this on An Evening With Dame Edna Everidge, really I do.

Always a good opportunity to get to know me a bit better and ask some questions. (Really, I’ll take questions about anything…). Particularly good for anyone who is finding a way into St Mary’s. Also open to old stagers who’ve not been to one of these evenings before and also those who read this blog and are provost-curious but have not quite made it to church yet.

I have had Garlic Mash three times in the past week, and Garlic and Horseradish on a steak last night.

I do not have a cold, so maybe it will work for you – or at least act as a preventative when am next at St Mary’s.

Kelvin, have you tried mulled wine?

Sachets with the mulling spices in them shouldn’t be too hard to get hold of (try Peckhams). They look like little teabags. Add a dash of orange juice, maybe float a slice on top as well. : )

It might not do much for your cold, but at least it’ll help you sleep, which is what you need right now — rest and fluids.

Also worth trying is a Hot Toddy.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Garlic’s not a bad idea. I’ve always found if I have a hot, garlic soaked, curry when I’ve got the lurgy I feel better.

What you need is a hot curry followed by a hot bath!

This man cold of yours is lingering on a bit or are you “milking” this illness??!!

What is a man cold? Don’t women get them too?

It seems to be a widely held view amongst women that men make much of their sufferings when they get a cold.

There is an urban dictionary definition here.

There are some who say that the female equivalent of a mancold is the flu, but I could not possibly comment.

If Ms Asphodeline is fed up of hearing about my poor state of health, presumably it will be quite a while before we hear anything about her own on livejournal.

Haha, you know I’ll probably get the office lurgy now?!

I hope you feel better soon. There’s nothing worse than a man with a cold

I realised at during morning prayer yesterday that in the midst of Heathrow Hell, I had glimpsed a moment of the Christmas story. • Dog Collars and Cat Collars

The realisation dawns that my dog-collar shirts are mostly in transit. I have a small stock (that is, a stock, not a stock of other shirts – ie a thing, not a collection of things) which I can use stuffed beneath other garments to simulate the bedog-collared look but that lives in the realm of…

  • Advent wreath – more

Many thanks to all those who chose to correspond on the subject of Advent Wreaths. For the record, we don’t have advent wreaths in Sweden, but rather a thingy (adventljus?) which places the four candles in a straight line. These may be decorated with green stuff but are more likely just to be metal. This…
