• Holy Week starts with joy

Many thanks to all those who made Palm Sunday so special at St Mary’s. (I’ve been ill for a fortnight, so it wasn’t down to me!)

Thanks to Stewart Macfarlane for capturing this pic. A reminder that Holy Week starts with joy.

“brutal”, “lots of noise”, “lots of unease”, “rabbling”.

Yes indeed, and that’s why I won’t be there next year. If I manage to find somewhere else with quiet calm dignity then I shall go there, otherwise I’ll be at home watching TV and not missing it.

I generally like the services at St Mary’s, well, apart from Eucharist but that’s a personal thing, but I’m afraid to say last night didn’t hit the spot for me in any way shape or form. No dignity.

I’d be sorry not to see you next year, Layclerk. I’d say that there was great beauty, peace and dignity at many moments during the Thursday evening, though not indeed during the Stripping.

Arrests tend not to be pretty. But then you know that.

  • Anniversary

Eleven years ago today I became a Deacon. It was a wonderful day. I remember having to buy a suit. Once a deacon, always a deacon and it is still a ministry that I feel called to daily. Here is what the ordinal says: The Church is the People of God, the Body of Christ…

  • Knowing me, Knowing you. Aha?

Just back in from an evening in the synod hall with 20 members of the congregation. This was prompted by my being told a while ago that it would be good for people to have a chance to get to know me. I’m not sure what that means. After all, I’m such an easy person…
