    We are marching

So proud of St Mary’s folk and friends yesterday. A very happy Pride parade through the streets of Glasgow giving out invitations to the Cathedral and generally having fun.

A whole rainbow of people connected to the congregation made it onto the street including church wardens, vestry members, young church folk, readers, LGBT group members and me.

A good time was had by all.

Here are some of the marchers by the stall in the marketplace:

I think there is one section of rejected people not shown here.  Its the people who used to be members of a church, sometimes playing a big part in the running of the church, but now unable to attend regularly through sickness and infirmity.  A lot of them feel rejected and forgotten now they no longer have a role.

  • How to Baptise Someone

I did my first Baptism in St Mary’s today. What a large font. Just about large enough to have baptised the candidate by full immersion.Amongst a great collection of other useful skills that we were not taught how to do during my training was how to baptise a child. Nor indeed an adult. Nor, when…

Two dancers. Different stories. We are invited to consider this morning David dancing the ark of the covenant from one place to another. And Salome shimmying around Herod’s party and catching his eye with such disastrous consequences for John the Baptizer. Two dancers. Two very different stories.
