• A Question about Marriage and the Bible – can you help

I’ve been asked an interesting question by the Vice Provost, the Rev Cedric Blakey this week.

The question is this – or at least something like this:

If one were in conversation with a couple considering marriage, which married couples from the bible would you cite as good examples of marriage based on the biblical evidence.

Let us make this easy and restrict things to couples in the bible who could be said to be married in the form that so many people want to tell me is the biblical model for marriage – ie one man and one woman, no sex outside marriage.

I’d be interested to hear your suggestions. Which biblical couples affirm this model?

“Christ is born and all shall be well” – sounds very like Jeremiah’s “peace, peace”, but there was not peace.
Substance is all important, whether it’s in the content of sermons or websites.
Throughout His life, and especially in His communication with the religious Jesus took great care to communicate substantially lest at the end many should come to Him, saying Lord, Lord and He would then have to say – I don’t know you.
Crowded churches or busy websites in themselves are nothing, as we all know – so let’s not encourage folks to busy themselves with such digressions.
But there are ways in which we should be busying ourselves – Jesus had a lot to say about that – including our presence for worship and even the content of websites!

Kelvin, your understanding of scripture is amazingly narrow, even literalistic – at times!!

          That may well be so.

          However, I do understand irony.

  • Preferring me dead

The worst thing in listening to a debate about the Anglican Covenant is that there generally comes a point when I realise that there are speakers who would prefer me to be dead. Often those speakers would think of themselves as liberals rather than conservatives too. Perhaps it would be easier on your ears if…

  • Exhausting but wonderful

The Sunday experience this week has fitted into the category of exhausting but wonderful. So many high-points. Three lovely baptisms. People packed to the gunnels around the font. (Is that a mixed metaphor or not, I’m too tired to know?). Zadok the Priest tonight. A new (to me) Mag and Nunc. Very busy church. Nice…
