• Wind News

It feels a little bit like the Day of Doom here at St Mary’s this morning what with the weather. I’m going to proceed on the basis that it isn’t but here are some of the things I’ve been hearing via twitter and social media in the last half hour or so.

    • Level crossing destroyed near Carstairs
    • There are people on trains that are going no-where.
    • Plane arrived at Glasgow airport from Canada (ie through the wind) only for a delay in getting them off because they couldn’t connect the bridge to the aircraft.
    • Airports now closed.
    • Glass falling from ceiling at Central Station in Glasgow – everyone evacuated.
    • No trains running
    • Red alert for roads – ie don’t drive and pull over if you are in a high sided vehicle

Madly, I read the sense of the first sentence as fall into the *arms* of a happy but exhausted provost ,and thought that you had went ahead and posted your suggested personal ad :-).

  • What am I listening to?

Well, thank you kindly for asking. Ella and Louis are coming out of the CD player right at this moment. John Barrowman singing Anything Goes has me joining in, to the delight of the whole tenement. (And before you ask, Dr Who still leaves me cold). Goodtime George Melly has been much mourned this week.…

  • Greetings from Nigeria

This pic was taken yesterday in St Mary’s. It shows, from left to right, The Rt Rev Idris Jones of Glasgow and Galloway (Bishop & Primus), The Rt Rev Bright Ogu, Bishop of Mbaise in Nigeria and the Very Rev, the Skinny Provost of St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow. It was nice to hear booming around…

  • Poetry Friday

Following the broadcast last Sunday, several people have been kind enough to send me this poem by Ann Lewin. Prayer is like watching for the Kingfisher. All you can do is Be where he is likely to appear and wait. Often, nothing much happens; There is space, silence and Expectancy. No visible sign, only the…

  • Deaconing

Ten years ago today, I was made a deacon. That was the day I moved into ordained ministry, started wearing a dog-collar, (and a suit!) and began work at St Ninian’s Cathedral in Perth, where I served my curacy. To be honest, I don’t remember that much about the service now. Fr Kevin Pearson preached.…
