Dunoon the watter
Over to the diocese of Argyll and the Isles for the second time in a week. This time to Dunoon for the installation of Kimberly Bohan as the priest for three congregations – Dunoon, Tighnabruich and Rothesay. A more glorious day could not have been chosen for the service and the trips across the Clyde,…

World Record Evensong
Turnout last night at Evensong was thought to be a world record around here for modern times. There were 119 people present, though 5 did leave when they discovered there was no sermon. My hunch is that they were looking for St Silas Church and were perplexed by the exquisite offering of music by Purcell,…

The Convent #2
Watched The Convent again tonight on BBC2. Liked the nun dancing the incense around the chapel during a Magnificat. (Which was to the tune of the Wild Mountain Thyme if my ears did not deceive me).I’m impressed with the nuns from Arundel – they are a good advert for what they do, but then most…

Hail Redeemer, King Divine
Yes, to Edinburgh for the glories of High Mass at St Michael and All Saints. (Why they did not become All Saints and All Angels when those 2 churches merged, I will never know – St M and All Ss never trips off the tongue as well).I tend to go back to that church for…

Keeping the Feast
I’m not at all sure that we really lived up to the Feast of Corpus Christi this morning. I was rushing around just before the service looking for bread and wine and wondering how on earth we were going to celebrate this particular feast day without them. I’ve a feeling that Thomas Aquinas who thought…

The Convent
Enjoyed watching The Convent last night. [Reality show where 4 women go live in a convent for 40 days and 40 nights]. I know it can be a hard life in monastic orders, but obviously a satisfying one. Wish more people did it.My only regret was that the programme was not called Big Sister.
